How to set a custom domain

You can personalize the URL of your Shareist notebook by using a custom domain.

For example, rather than using http://johnsmith.shareist.com, you can use http://www.johnsmith.com if you own that specific domain name.

Instructions

1. Go to your Shareist dashboard

2. Click on the Notebooks menu in the left navigation, then the name of your notebook to get to the notebook dashboard.

3. Click on "Custom Domain"

3. Follow the instructions on the page:

  • Domain: point the domain's A record (IP Address) to 67.227.254.246
  • Sudomain: point a CNAME record to custom.shareist.com

4. Add your domain and click the "Save" button.

Troubleshooting

  • Do I need to change the nameservers for the domain?

No, just the A-record or CNAME record depending on levels in your domain.

  • How do I know if I set up my domain correctly?

It can take up to 72 hours for the DNS to update with the changes you made. If after 72 hours your Shareist website doesn't load for the domain name you set, there is a problem. Use the "Admin Support" available from your website to get in touch with us so we can try to help you further.

  • What happens to my old Shareist URL (ei: http://johnsmith.shareist.com)?

It will automatically get redirected to the domain name you set in your site "Settings". If you remove the custom domain you set, then you old Shareist URL will be activated again.
